Selection criteria
To be listed, a program must be specifically designed for lawyers or legal professionals (general AI courses are excluded), be currently available or have a confirmed next date, and publish enough detail for us to describe the syllabus accurately. The directory currently covers 25 programs from 24 institutions across the United States, the United Kingdom, continental Europe and Canada.
How verdicts are decided
Each course is scored on five dimensions, weighted toward what changes a lawyer's practice:
- Practical applicability (30%). Does the course have participants perform real legal tasks with AI, and does it teach confidentiality safeguards?
- Instructor credibility (20%). Practising lawyers who are demonstrable power users score highest, followed by faculty and then vendor teams.
- Verified learner ratings (20%). Only ratings published by an independent platform (Maven, Coursera) are counted. Provider-selected testimonials are not.
- Cost per hour of instruction (15%). All fees converted to euros at September 2026 rates and divided by the instruction hours published by the provider.
- Credential value (15%). Accredited CLE/CPD credit, recognised certifications and institutional reputation.
Verification and updates
Every price, duration, date and accreditation claim is checked directly on the provider's website. Several entries were corrected in the most recent review: Oxford's AI University Foundations is £840 rather than the £2,800 listed elsewhere, LSE's certificate fell to £2,420, UCL moved to tiered pricing and Bucerius's next summer program is in 2027. We re-verify quarterly and whenever a provider announces a change.
